TOLEDO, OHIO -- On Wednesday, the last day of class for Libbey High School, parents, teachers and students expressed a range of thoughts from nolstagic to bittersweet.

The school's director, Gayle Shaber, says Libbey has a unique place in Toledo history.  "Whether you are a student or a staff member everybody has a story but the story of Libbey High School is the story of kids," Mrs. Shaber said.

Students like sophomore Deonda McNeal expressed reservations about losing some of their friends.  "All of my friends are really split up. Half of my friends are going to Bowsher, some are going to Waite, others to Scott," Ms. McNeal said.

Libbey first opened on September 10, 1923.  On Tuesday, May 25 the Toledo Schools Board of Education voted to close the school in order to help reduce a $39 million budget deficit.
