TOLEDO, OHIO -- A Toledo girl and the police officer who saved her are recovering after being attacked by a pit bull over the weekend.

Police say the 11-year-old girl was riding her bike on Dover Place in East Toledo Sunday evening when the dog leaped a fence and attacked her.  A responding Toledo Police officer fired two shots at the pit bull after it grabbed his arm, according to authorities.

The girl was taken to Mercy St. Vincent's Medical Center with unknown injuries.  The officer was treated at the scene.

Police say the dog, along with another pit bull at the scene, were taken into custody by the Lucas County Dog Warden.
