TOLEDO -- Ohio Senator Teresa Fedor calls human trafficking "the human rights issue of our lifetime."

She took that message and information on her plan to strengthen penalties for the crime to St. Ursula Academy Monday morning.

Fedor has the state senate studying the issue and hopes that her new bill will pass and those accused of human trafficking will face new felony charges.

"Right now our children are being recriminalized in the fact that they have to go to juvenile jail to be protected and they end up with a record while the traffickers and the users walk away from the halls of justice," said State Senator Teresa Fedor, (D)-11th District

Fedor says if her legislation is passed it will stiffen Ohio's laws to match those of 43 other states.
