OTTAWA COUNTY -- The woman accused of neglecting her horses to the point of starvation was scheduled to face a judge Thursday.  She was instead hospitalized with 'depression' according to her attorney.

Robin Vess, 54, has been charged with 42 counts of animal abuse after more than 30 abused horses were rescued from her Oak Harbor farm last month.  Six of the horses eventually died.  The other horses, found severely malnourished, were signed over by Vess to a rescue group last week.

The horses will be adopted, but experts say their condition was so bad that recovery will take about a year.

Vess did not make her scheduled court appearance on Thursday.  Her attorney says Vess has been hospitalized with 'depression'.  No future court date has been set.
