Roadway fatality slows traffic for hours Tuesday night

MAUMEE, OHIO -- One lane of southbound I-475/US 23 was shut down for hours Tuesday night after an pedestrian was struck by a commerical vehicle.

Maumee Police responded to the scene just south of the Dussel Dr. exit around 5:30 p.m. on a report of a woman struck on the interstate. 

An investigation into the incident revealed a 75-year-old woman was killed after she was struck by a semi while lying on or near the roadway.  The woman's vehicle appeared to have been involved in an accident with another semi about one quarter-mile north of where she was struck. 

Reports indicate the woman tried to kill herself by wrecking her vehicle.  When she was not successful she ran into the highway, according to authorities.

Traffic was backed up souhtbound in one-lane for over two hours as authorities investigated the incident.

Maumee Police will continue to investigate the incident.
