TOLEDO -- As passersby can see from the old tires sticking out of the water, Lamberjack Marina in Ottawa County is shallow.
Vince Lamberjack, who owns the marina, says he drove right by the mostly submerged body of 26-year-old Jennifer Shively several times assuming it was just another piece of debris.
“It looked like an old tire, or actually more like a boat bumper sticking up,” said Lamberjack.
Shively’s body remained hog tied under the water for weeks until the end of August when police pulled the badly decomposed body out of the marina.
Family members identified the mother of five’s body by a few distinct tattoos.
In the following days Ottawa County Sheriff’s detective Kevin Meek realized most of Shively’s ties were in the Toledo area so he called on the Toledo Police Department for help.
On September 2nd the Shively family held a press conference asking for the public’s assistance in catching the killer.
Detective Meek says leads and tips were steady for a while, but since the press conference, things have slowed down a bit.
He says the case however, is still far from cold.
“I think we’re on the right track here. Some things are slowly developing. As far as a time frame, I don’t know, but I don’t believe this will continue to be a cold case,” said Meek.
So for now detectives will continue to work and Vince Lamberjack will keep driving around his marina, perhaps with a bit more vigilance these days, taking a closer look at what may just seem to be an old tire or a boat bumper.
