TOLEDO -- Lucas County Commissioners have voted down a measure to oust County Dog Warden Tom Skeldon.

Skeldon has come under fire recently what some are calling unacceptably high kill rates for dogs held by the county.   He has also failed to improve upon services offered by the dog warden after the county agreed to raise fees collected for dog licenses.

Commissioner Ben Konop called for the dismissal of Skeldon from his position as county dog warden in an executive session Tuesday.  His fellow commissioners, Pete Gerken and Tina Skeldon-Wozniak voted down the motion to fire Skeldon.

Skeldon-Wozniak is a first cousin to Tom Skeldon.  Though she is not required to do so, she refused Konop's request to abstain from voting.
