TOLEDO -- A search through NBC24's archives reveals that WNWO interviewed the man now accused in the 1985 murder of Lori Ann Hill just days after the 14-year-old went missing.
Zimbeck, 42, formerly of Maumee, was arrested in Tennessee on Monday and charged with Hill's murder 24 years ago. The Swanton teenager went missing Oct. 25, 1985 and her body was found four days later nearly nude with a gunshot would in a wooded area miles away. Investigators said she was beaten to death.
Zimbeck was among dozens of volunteers who searched for the missing teen girl. He was questioned by investigators after the Hill's disappearance and was considered to be a person of interest. The 18-year-old was a former boyfriend of Hill's.
In his own words to WNWO, just days after Hill went missing, Zimbeck said he was very worried, "This is something that she wouldn't do at all. I just don't know what to say."
Zimbeck is expected to be extradicted from Sevier County, Tenn. to Fulton County within a few days. The interview he gave to WNWO over two decades ago could end up being used against him in court.
