(AP) -- There's more to Michigan than the mitten. To make sure the Upper Peninsula isn't forgotten, a Michigan lawmaker wants to require that official publications, documents and promotional materials from the state that include an image or map show the whole state.
Some "Yoopers," as U.P. residents call themselves, felt slighted last year when a state-sponsored tourism commercial only showed the more populous Lower Peninsula. The television ad was later fixed.
A state House committee today unanimously approved legislation requiring both peninsulas to be included on state of Michigan materials.
The bill is sponsored by Rep. Michael Lahti of Hancock in the U.P.
