TOLEDO -- Testimony has come to an end and both sides have rested in the Thomas Zich murder trial.

The Swanton man is accused of killing his wife in December of 1991 and stuffing her body in the trunk of her car.

Zich's voice was played in court Tuesday.  His voice was heard in an interview with detectives taped in 2007.  "You guys want to handle the whole thing.  You take it, you bury her."

In the interview, Zich tells detectives that his wife Mary Jane, whose body was found in the trunk of her car, had a drug problem and that it was normal for her to disappear for a couple days.

Zich's defense called no witnesses in the trial.  They did bring up the matter of DNA in cross examination. "There was no DNA from the crime scene or from or what was found in the trunk or anywhere having to do with the investigation of this case where Mr. Zich turned out to be a match," said defense attorney Allan Konop.

A witness agreed with Konop's statement.

Closing arguments are scheduled to begin Wednesday morning.

Zich's step-daughter did not take the witness stand in the trial.  She was expected to testify that she saw her step-father put her mother in the trunk of the car back in 1991.  She was three-years-old at the time of the incident.

Zich faces life in prison if convicted.
