(Archbold)--Students at Northwest State Community College in Archbold realize they are a part of a huge experiment, testing the powers of mother nature. Recently crews installed a massive 45 foot tiltable wind turbine.

Students, staff, and political leaders are all hopeful this program will be a huge trendsetter for getting students trained in areas of alternative energy design and service industries.

Green by Design, a division of Stark's Incorporated, played a major role in the project. The company actually installed the Skystream 3-point-7, valued at $25 thousand. This device is connected directly into the grid and produces minimal power when wind speeds are at least eight miles an hour. The efforts behind all of this are two fold. Financial and, perhaps most importantly, educational.

There are already about 30 fulltime students who are part of the new Alternative Energy Degrees programs being offered at Northwest State. If you want to find out more about the curriculum, including an introductory course, you can call 419-267-5511 or go to www.northweststate.edu.
