TOLEDO, OHIO -- A serious injury crash turned tragic Thursday when a pregnant woman and her unborn child were killed.

Police say Holly Darrah, 28, was driving a Nissan Sentra south on the Anthony Wayne Trail shortly after 11:00 a.m. Thursday when the vehicle veered off the left side of the road and struck two trees before coming to a rest in the median just north of Detroit Avenue.

Darrah's 4-year-old daughter, Riley, was the only passenger in the vehicle.   The girl was seriously injured and was taken by Life Flight to Toledo Hospital.   The roadway was briefly shut down in order for Life Flight to get to the scene.

Darrah, who was eight-months pregnant at the time of the crash, was transported to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center.  Both Darrah and her unborn child were pronounced dead at the hospital after an emergency C-section was performed.

Riley is currently listed in critical condition at Toledo Hospital.

The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation.
