TOLEDO -- Ohio's largest ambulance carrier is at the top of the list when it comes to alternative fuel programs. MedCorp EMS recently received recognition for having a first class of green fleets. The non-profit agency "Clean Fuels Ohio" just gave Medcorp top honors for having clean, green fuels. And what's really interesting is how these vehicles are actually being powered.
We all know propane is used for grilling. but did you know this liquid petroleum gas can be used for driving as well? In fact more than half of the fleet at MedCorp is now run on this type of non-toxic fuel.
The conversion of each vehicle costs the company around $6 thousand. It entails attaching several propane tanks in the rear in addition to a computer-monitoring system to keep track of fuel efficiency. And with propane, there's about a ten percent increase in horse power and torque with a 104 pump octane rating.
Then there's the safety issue. Those in favor of propane say it's a non-issue since propane can become a gas, and it disperses. This is unlike gasoline which is highly flammable.
MedCorp Green is a division of MedCorp EMS. it's actually willing to help other companies make the switch from gas to propane. You can call 419-729-6412 or 877-549-5605 if you want to make your commercial fleet green. You can also log onto www.medcorpgreen.com for more.
