A Deputy Dog Warden shot and killed a 10 lb. dog, now the family is calling for a full investigation
TOLEDO, OH -- Chad Snyder says his pet dog was a gift for his 4-year-old daughter. It's a 10 pound Pomeranian - Beagle mix named Princess. But now, Princess is dead, and Snyder is blaming a Deputy Lucas County Dog Warden.
Princess was running around the neighborhood while Snyder was at work. He says the back door blew open, Princess got out, and someone called the Dog Warden. A Deputy came and shot Princess with a tranquilizer dart, but she never woke up.
"People that she might have annoyed would tell you that she's not a vicious animal," Snyder says. But, that's just one side to this story. Neighbors say the dog would often get out of the fenced in yard and nibble the neighbors and bother the kids that went to a nearby pre-school. According to the Deputy's report, on the day Princess was shot with the dart, she was running around the Cherry Pre-School at Ottawa River.
The Dog Warden himself has no comment on this issue.
County Commissioner Ben Konop and his colleagues are assembling a committee made up of dog owners, veterinarians and pet agencies to begin overseeing the actions of the Dog Warden. Their first task will be investigating Princess' death.
