DETROIT -- Toledo-area Chrysler workers have something to smile about .
The number three US automaker says its profits jumped $1.7 billion in 2012.
Chrysler's profits were nine times higher than the $183 million the carmaker recorded in 2011.
This is just one more step in Chrysler's turnaround. The company declared bankruptcy in 2009 and needed a government loan to survive.
Chrysler's sales rose 18% last year thanks in large part to strong sales of the Toledo built Jeep.
