An Oak Harbor woman convicted of starving more than 40 Arabian horses she owned and that were in her care has started serving her jail sentence. Robin Vess, 56, of Oak Harbor, was convicted in April 2010 of 42 counts of animal cruelty after Ottawa County Humane Society investigators raided her farm and found dead and starving Arabian horses.

The owner of a horse farm whose animals were found malnourished, dehydrated, and near death lost her appeal Monday in the Sixth District Court of Appeals. Robin Vess, 56, of Oak Harbor was found guilty of 42 counts of cruelty to animals in Ottawa County Municipal Court in April.
