FREMONT -- For now 170 cats and 16 dogs call the Humane Society of Sandusky County home, but that could change within a few months according to the shelter's manager, Sharlene Wheeler.

"We are looking at probably closing the end of this year because of the funding runing out; we have already started dipping into our savings," she said.

Just last week, the shelter seized 14 animals from a home in Fremont. Animal neglect charges against the owner of those animals are pending. The most seriously injured of the animals was a 20-year-old donkey named Henry who has been making steady progress since he has been in the care of the Humane Society.
