TOLEDO -- One organization wants to see 100 dogs and cats adopted... in just two days.

Planned Pethood's "WE ARE NOT TRASH" event lasts from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday and features animals in need of a forever home with adoption fees as low as $5.

"Mary is 6 weeks old and is blind in both eyes. She will likely need to have both eyes removed. Rather than treat her humanely, her people threw her out like trash," wrote Nikki Morey, executive director for Planned Pethood, on the organization's website. "Gustaf was rescued from a high kill local shelter after his people dumped him there like trash. PPI later learned his background and were shocked he has been through so much and still is a loving companion. These animals are simple examples of everyday occurrences in the life of a PPI volunteer. WE ARE NOT TRASH!"

All cats and senior dogs will be $5 and kittens $15. Dogs that have been with Planned Pethood longterm are only $50 and all other dogs will be regularly priced. The organization will only accept cash at the event.

All of the cats will be at the Petsmart on Airport Hwy. All dogs, except the seniors, will be at Petsmart on Airport. The senior dogs can be found at Petsmart in Rossford.

"When PPI gets animals like (Mary and Gustaf), it doesn't send us over the edge. But it does make it more difficult to find homes for (them) because of their special needs," Morey wrote. "All normal screening processes will be followed and the search for great homes will be our first priority."

Please email ed@plannedpethood.org or puppy.foster@gmail.com with any questions about the upcoming adoption event.
