OTTAWA HILLS -- A vigil was held Saturday night for Brian Hoeflinger. The 18 year old died early Saturday morning in a car accident.

"You really just can't believe that it happened," explained shocked friend of Hoeflinger's A.J. King.

Ohio State Highway Patrol says alcohol was a factor in the crash that killed Hoeflinger when his car went off of Edgehill Road and struck a tree in Ottawa Hills.

The 18 year olds best friends, neighbors, and even people he didn't know stood outside in the cold air to honor the Ottawa Hills High School Senior, "The community really welcomes you. that's what we all did this year for Brian, and I really can't even phantom it together yet, but I know he'll be dearly missed in class with teachers, faculty, and staff, everyone," adds King.

Saturday night, students were supposed to attend a dance at the high school.

Instead, everyone who showed up remembered a young man who wanted to make a difference, "Brian, who was a member of our student body who contributed so much each and everyday in a variety of ways. So it is a difficult journey, but yet, we'll journey together and take this together," says Kevin Miller Ottawa Hills School Superintendent.

School leaders say grief counselors will be at school Monday to console students and staff.
