TOLEDO -- The Ohio Board of Education downgraded Toledo Public Schools from Continuous Improvement to Academic Watch.  Superintendent Dr. Jerome Pecko held a press conference on Wednesday morning to discuss the report card.  "Our rating did drop from Continuous Improvement to Academic Watch, but the angel is in the details," Dr. Pecko said.  5 schools were rated Excellent by the Ohio Department of Education-Martin Luther King Academy for Boys, Grove Patterson Academy, Elmhurst Elementary, Toledo Technology Academy, Toledo Early College High School.

The district achieved 94 percent attendance; 62% of eligible students graduated at the end of the 2011-2012 school year. The district achieved a score of 81.8 in the Performance Index Calculation. The breakdown of the Performance Index shows that 8.9% of students performed at an advanced level, 15.3% accelerated, 35.2% proficient, 23.5% basic and 16.3% limited.

Scott High School was upgraded from Academic Warning to Academic Watch.  Principal Treva Jeffries says that this rating was earned despite a lot of upheaval at Scott with having to relocate to a separate facility while the main campus was being renovated.  "This is just the beginning and we are not going to stop until we achieve an excellent rating," Principal Jeffries said.
