Toledo Mayor Mike Bell's top economic development official has been re-assigned following the collapse of a proposal to redevelop the site of the old Southwyck Mall.

Deputy Mayor Tom Crothers will be moved to the Department of Public Utilities to "spearhead special projects."

Crothers will be replaced by Paul Syring, the city's General Counsel, until a permanent replacement is found.

The news comes just days after a city backed plan to turn the empty lot, where the Southwyck mall once stood, into a sports complex was cancelled.

The city allegedly backed out of the deal after learning the lead developer on the project, was listed as a defendant in dozens of Lucas County lawsuits.
