The last Jeep Liberty is expected to come off the assembly line Thursday.
According to the Toledo Blade, Chrysler’s Jeep Liberty has been a trademark for more than 11 years, with more than 1.25 million on the roadways.
The shutdown of production means hundreds will be without a job. The Blade reports that about 800 of the 950 hourly employees will be laid off.
The 150 employees who will stay on are skilled-trades workers and will be responsible for tearing down the old equipment and installing the new.
A replacement for the Liberty is coming next year. Production of the new vehicle, which has not yet been named, will begin sometime in the second quarter of 2013.
