TOLEDO -- Toledo officials hope to have 11 new speed cameras, erected since June, up and running in the next two weeks.

On Tuesday, the last of nearly a dozen RedFlex cameras were put up along Anthony Wayne Trail.

Two have been placed along the Trail to cover both directions between South Avenue and Hippo Way.

Officials say each of the sites, for the new cameras, was carefully selected based on a traffic study that determined the need for additional safety measures.

WNWO spoke to several commuters traveling through the area on Wednesday and most said they believed the cameras were more of a tactic to collect taxpayer dollars.

"The stretch ain't that long. You can't hurt anyone but yourself if you do get in an accident," one man said.

A Toledo Blade article, however, found that the camera placed along Anthony Wayne Trail where in close proximity to an accident that took the lives of 2 children in 2008.

The additional 9 sites for the new speed cameras include: northbound Secor Road at Alexis Road, eastbound and westbound Alexis at Whitmer Drive, northbound and southbound Reynolds Road at Bancroft Street, northbound and southbound Cherry Street at Delaware Avenue, and eastbound and westbound Dorr Street at Collingwood Boulevard.
