CAMBRIDGE TOWNSHIP, MICH. -- Wildlife experts have found an illegal carp in a southern Michigan lake.

A crew was searching Marrs Lake in Lenawee County last week after a fisherman submitted a photo of a 3-foot-long grass carp.

State Department of Natural Resources biologist Todd Kalish said Monday the carp found Wednesday has been sent to Illinois for testing to determine whether the fish is capable of reproducing.

Kalish says results are expected as early as next week.

Grass carp are considered a species of Asian carp but don't pose the same risk to the ecosystem.

The DNR says they eat important plants and can disrupt fish habitat.

Marrs Lake is about 20 miles southeast of Jackson.
