MAUMEE -- The Toledo Area Humane Society says that it is in "urgent and immediate need" of canned cat food and foster care volunteers.

They say that this year's mild weather allowed “kitten season” to begin early and the Toledo Area Humane Society is now flooded with kitten that are too young for adoption.

TAHS estimates they are taking in "an average of 20 litters of kittens each week" and are also seeing a greater number of adult cats being surrendered to the shelter.

The current situation has put the Humane Society in dire need of canned food and foster families.

In addition, they are requesting donations of gently used or new towels, small pet carriers, small litter boxes (new only please), small pet food dishes, and small or medium-size dog crates.

For those interested in fostering, the Toledo Area Humane Society provides all the supplies necessary to care for the animals.

Donations can be dropped off at TAHS's Maumee location during regular business hours.
