ROSSFORD -- Owners of businesses in downtown Rossford could be big winners in the wake of the opening of Hollywood Casino Toledo. Rob Socie, owner of Bulldog Diner says his place was packed on Tuesday afternoon. "Yesterday was good and bad, we were slammed with customers up until two and three o'clock," Mr. Socie said. The one negative pertained to parking. Socie explained that his dinner crowd had difficulty finding parking. By mid afternoon the parking garage at the casino was completely filled and people drove a few blocks away to park in front of stores and shops on Superior St.
Ron Kester, manager of the Double Down Consignment & Pawn Shop, says he may need to expand. "We're talking about hiring a few more workers to handle the bigger crowds and maybe moving into a bigger store to accommodate the bigger merchandise," Mr. Kester said.
There are several vacant properties on Superior Street that have for sale signs. They could possibly be converted into restaurants and other businesses to cater to the casino crowd. "I believe that it is already happening," Mr. Kester said.
