TOLEDO -- An autopsy performed Monday failed to reveal what caused the death of a semi-pro football player who was fatally injured while playing in a charity football game at Springfield High School on Saturday. 32-year-old David Coleman, a member of the Jay County Panthers of Portland, Indiana was injured while covering a punt return. A member of the Northwest Ohio Knights slammed into Coleman's chest knocking him violently to the ground.
Anthony Mathis, who plays quarterback for the Knights described what happened moments after the hit. "He basically went into cardiac arrest and he was going into convulsions, people were running out onto the filed trying to help him but his heart had stopped," Mr. Mathis said.
The Lucas County coroner's office says it is waiting for more tests to determine what happened.
