TOLEDO -- You don't have to worry about buying any meat with pink slime added into it at Kroger.

That's because the nation's largest traditional grocer will no longer sell ground beef containing an additive many critics call pink slime.

Kroger is joining grocery chains Food Lion, Safeway and Supervalu in not selling beef with the filler.

The chain had originally said that it would sell the beef both with and without the additive.

Meanwhile, The company that makes "pink slime" is suspending operations at three of four plants where the low-cost beef filler is made amid a public outcry over concern about the ingredient.

While the USDA has said that it is safe for consumption it has given public schools the option of not using meat with the trimming.
