Just 36 hours after 17-year-old Abigail “Abi” Perkins died at Toledo Hospital, from injuries sustained in a 2-vehicle accident on Wednesday; there had already been an outpouring of grief from the community.

“We decided to come out here around 5 or 6 [Wednesday night] and put the sign up and a balloon and flowers,” Whitmer High School student John Podsinski said.

Since then, many others have come to the crash site to leave flowers, notes and other mementos.

“We are trying to keep her memory alive,” Perkins’ classmate Brandon Copic said.

Vigils were also held, both Thursday morning and evening to honor her memory.

Both Copic and Podsinski remember Perkins as a great friend and someone who spoke her mind.

“She was a really fun loving person, she was outgoing, she was really to the point,” Podsinski recalled of Perkins.

Authorities say Perkins had been speeding and weaving in and out of traffic before she lost control of her vehicle and was hit by another car along West Alexis Road.
