TOLEDO -- A small but passionate group gathered in Central Toledo, Thursday night, to take part in prayer vigil to ask for an end to the recent gun violence.

Despite the freezing cold temperatures, about a dozen residents and community leaders attended the event at the intersection of Central and Detroit Avenues tonight.

Among them was Leslie Robinson, whose son "Donnie" was murdered in 2005 during an altercation over a sandwich.

Steve Anthony of Toledo area ministries says he felt compelled to attend after seeing the funeral for 17-year-old Deadrick Rocker.

Rocker was allegedly gunned down by 16-year-old Davion Wilson on December 30th.

"We all have a part to play. It's not just the police, we pray, and we need to engage the youth in our community. We should volunteer, we should be a part of organizations that help mentor youth," Anthony said.

Others at the vigil said prayer was the least they could do to help bring back safety to Toledo.

"Something needs to be done. For us to sit idle and say nothing is to be part of the problem. The solution we have today is prayer," Cedric Brock of the Ministerial Alliance of Toledo & Vicinity said.

The event was organized by the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance of Toledo.
