TOLEDO, OHIO -- The Lucas County Coroner has performed an autopsy on a man found dead in the rubble of an apartment fire.

According to The Toledo Blade, the Coroner ruled that 35-year-old Delano Fleming "died of smoke inhalation".

The article added that Fleming's body also sustained injuries "caused by the excavator used to remove the rubble and from pressure of the debris on the body".

As of Monday night a ruling had still not been made to determine if Fleming's death was accidental or a homicide.

Fleming's body was found Saturday afternoon, more than 24 hours after fire ravaged his West Toledo apartment complex on Friday morning.

According to the AP, relatives watching a search of the building on Saturday criticized fire crews for not sufficiently "searching the building while it was ablaze or before it was torn down later Friday."

In an interview with the Toledo Blade, Fire Chief Luis Santiago said that firefighters were focused on saving four children trapped during the fire and that they later were told the remaining residents were accounted for.

Santiago added that relatives had reported the Fleming missing late Friday afternoon, but workers couldn't search the rubble in the dark.
