TIFFIN (AP) -- Officials in northwest Ohio have said no a final time to saving a county courthouse built in 1884.

The Toledo Blade reports Seneca County commissioners who voted Thursday also asked the demolition company to save the cornerstone and 2,000 bricks from the county courthouse in Tiffin.

The building is scheduled to start coming down on Tuesday, after preservation-minded taxpayers gave up their court fight. The attorney for the group said this week that they were abandoning a lawsuit filed with the Ohio Supreme Court, which declined to take emergency action to save the courthouse.

Commissioners who want to see it torn down say the county can't afford to make renovations.

The Ohio Historical Society has hired a Columbus filmmaker to take shots of the courthouse, possibly for a documentary.
