MONROE COUNTY, MI --

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal traffic crash involving a car and train.

The collision happed at the Conrail Railroad tracks on Nadeau Road near Wolverine Drive in Frenchtown Township.

Authorities say their preliminary investigation shows 41-year-old Alexandra D. McDuffie "was operating a 1995 Honda Civic passenger car westbound on Nadeau Road, when it was struck by a Norfolk Southern train that was traveling southbound".

Officials say the impact of the crash ejected the Monroe resident from her vehicle.

McDuffie was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim's 8-year-old daughter was a passenger in the vehicle and was transported to St. Vincent’s Mercy Hospital.

As of Wednesday night, the girl was in stable condition.

None of the train personnel were injured in the crash.

Investigators say alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.

They believe that the train signals were operational at the time of the crash.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call 734-240-7493.
