TOLEDO -- The former Nathan Hale Elementary School will soon have a date with the wrecking ball.

The school, which was closed in 2009 because of enrollment and funding declines, will be torn down by the end of the year.

A community group, led by Rosa Turnbough tried to save the 90 year old school at the corner of Upton and Foster Avenues by turning it into a family resource center but they could not come up with the money to buy the building.

"I think the timing was a little off," Ms. Turnbough told the Toledo Blade.

Nathan Hale joins other TPS buildings and schools on the demolition list.  Most notably is the former Libbey High School which despite being placed on the National Registery of Historic Places will be torn down this year.

Did you attend Nathan Hale?  What were your fondest memories?  Do you think the building should be torn down?  Post your comments below.
