Breast cancer survivor Julie Tate shared her inspirational story on WNWO Today Friday, two days before the 18th Annual Komen Northwest Ohio Race for the Cure.

After her first diagnosis in 2005, Tate says she focused on making sure cancer did not define her. The cancer was a part of her life, but it does not rule her life, she said.

"I try to have as much fun as I can," Tate said.

Aggressive chemotherapy and a loving support network helped her beat the disease once, she said. The second time, though, it spread to her brain and Tate continues to receive treatment every three weeks. Still, she maintains a positive outlook and filled the WNWO studio Friday with her optimism.

Festivities for the Komen Northwest Ohio Race for the Cure start at 7:30 a.m. on Sun., Sept. 25.  The 5k walk/run kicks off at 9:30 a.m.
