SYLVANIA TOWNSHIP - Sylvania Township trustees held a public meeting Tuesday to gather public input on a proposal that would drop TARTA service in the community.

Township officials say they are considering opting out of the public transportation program.

Sylvania Township residents contribute millions of tax dollars to TARTA and trustees say they want the public to decide if that spending is justified.

Several transit advocates were at the meeting along with members of the handicapped community.

No official decision was reached at the meeting but the issue may eventually be decided by the voters.

Township trustees anticipate a future presentation from TARTA, on their services, before the issue would come to a vote.

Opponents of the plan say Sylvania officials should first offer alternatives to TARTA before trying to eliminate the program.
