HASTINGS, MI -- An elderly Michigan woman's family says she was asked to remove her adult diaper in order to clear security at a Northwest Florida airport.
95-year-old Lena Reppert was heading to Michigan from Fort Walton, FL last weekend to live out her final days. She's at the end of a battle with leukemia.
She uses a wheelchair, which her daughter says triggered additional screening, and the humiliating request.
a TSA spokesperson says inspectors did not force Reppert to remove the diaper, and they were professional.
Daughter Jean Weber says the diaper was "hard" because it had been wet and that TSA agents said they needed it removed for a more thorough search.
Weber filed a complaint, and was told by a supervisor that agents were following rules and procedures.
Here is the complete statement from the TSA:
"While every person and item must be screened before entering the secure boarding area, TSA works with passengers to resolve security alarms in a respectful and sensitive manner. We have reviewed the circumstances involving this screening and determined that our officers acted professionally, according to proper procedure and did not require this passenger to remove an adult diaper."
