TOLEDO, OHIO -- Northwest Ohio's “American Idol” runner-up Crystal Bowersox has shot to stardom but she isn’t forgetting where she came from.
She’s returning to help the school that helped to shape who she is today.
It’s called “An Intimate Evening with Crystal Bowersox.” And this isn't just another show for Crystal.
She's giving all of the proceeds to her alma mater, the Toledo School for the Arts.
"It's huge for TSA that Crystal is willing to come back and do something for the school," said TSA Artistic Director David Saygers." It’s had a big impact on us that she did so well on "American Idol" last year, he said.
Students are not only excited about her performance but taken back by her act of kindness.
"I heard she was doing it for us and I thought that was really cool that she's doing it to benefit us. It’s amazing," said senior Vince Garcia.
Senior Shelby Butz also agrees.
"I think it's really fabulous that Crystal is doing a concert to benefit our school,” she said. It’s really generous of her now that she's got a little bit of fame under her belt.”
Although she has accomplished what most people only dream about that hasn't stopped her from giving back and supporting her hometown.
The former ‘Idol’ contestant will perform a special concert on Saturday May 28 at 7 and 10 p.m. at the Valentine Theatre.
