Looks like there's yet another reason to thank your mail carriers. Each year, the national association of letter carriers teams up with customers on their route for the largest single day food drive, nationwide.
This year marked the 19th annual stamp out hunger effort. Residents were encouraged to participate by leaving non-perishable food items such as canned veggies, fruis, pasta, cereal and soups at or near their mailbox.
Those items were then collected and brought back to the Post Office for sorting. The food items collected will be distributed locally throughout the area.
"It’s a little bit of a waiting game until the carriers get to the street then when they start coming in with the donations it really is exciting to see the bins fill up and I just keep thinking to myself how great this is for all the families in northwest Ohio," said volunteer Jamie Christian.
