COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Deadly tornadoes that hit northwest Ohio in early June caused an estimated $22.1 million in damage, according to a preliminary insurance industry estimate.
The Ohio Insurance Institute said Wednesday its figure is based on a survey of 27 insurance companies. Together, they hold three quarters of the market for car and homeowners insurance in Ohio and nearly a third of the state's commercial insurance market.

Estimated number of claims - 3,628 (Homeowners 2,831/Auto 523/Business 274)
Loss estimates - $22.1 million (Homeowners $17.7M/Auto $1.5M/Business $2.9M)
Institute President Daniel Kelso says the damage tally will rise as more insurers report their claims.
The storms destroyed a high school and scores of homes. Six people were killed.
The damage was not the costliest caused by wind in Ohio in recent years. Losses totaled more than $1.1 billion from remnants of Hurricane Ike in September 2008.
