PORT CLINTON -- A disagreement over the relocation of a century-old wooden lighthouse along Lake Erie has stalled restoration efforts.

The lighthouse in Port Clinton was built in 1896, helping to guide ships into the Portage River for over a century. The structure has sat for over 60 years at its owner’s marina, and now a disagreement over where the revamped lighthouse will be placed is making waves.

The Port Clinton Lighthouse Conservancy and the owner want to move the lighthouse to a waterfront park, in hopes of attracting visitors and boosting the economy. Port Clinton officials want the structure placed further off-shore.

The stalemate has lasted for more than a year, and the Port Clinton Lighthouse Conservancy is pushing for city officials to change their mind.
